6/11/07 - Jindi bhaji is the son of Bhai Prithipal Singh Ji and Bhai Mohanpal Singh Ji. His grandfather's name is Jasa Pala Bhai Pal Singh Ji/Bhai Jaswant Singh Ji (Hazoori Ragi Sri Nankana Sahib).

Jindi bhaji has got to be the best tabla player I know. And for someone to have this kind of skill and in so much nimarta at the same time to say that he is still learning - that is perfect character. He learned tabla from Ustad Alla Rakha and Tafu Khan and is a follower of Zakir Hussain and Anindo Chaterjee. He is now an Ustad himself teaching at Washington D.C. and playing tabla with Bhai Gurdarshan Singh Ji. He has played with Pandit Buddha Ditte Mukar Ji, Ghazal artist Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib, Anindo Chaterjee, Parvez Mehndi, Daler Mehndi, Pooran Chand Vadaali, Santoor player Bhajan Spori, Ustad Valaayat Khan Sahib, Imrat Hussain Khan Sahib (sitar player) and their sons Ustaad Arshad Khan (program in Washington D.C.) and many famous ragis including Bhai Gurdev Singh Ji and Bhai Nirmal Singh Khalsa (Hazoori Ragi Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar), Ustad Davinder Partap/Mohinder Partap Singh, Bhai Dilbagh Singh Ji/Bhai Gulbagh Singh Ji, and Bhai Balbir Singh Ji (Shrimoani Ragi Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar).

I've known Jindi bhaji for about a year now. We met at the Yuba City Nagar Keertan last year in November. It just so happened that he was going to play a solo that same day and it is posted on this page.

Jindi has played tabla in front of President Bush (President of USA) a total of seven times and in front of Hillary Clinton as well.

Paji and I would update each other weekly and I told him that I was coming to India and he said he was coming as well. Just a few days ago, Bhai Maninder Singh of Amritsar was on "live" on the ETC channel from Darbar Sahib and I had turned on the TV (for the second time in a month) to see what ragi was on. There, I saw Jindi bhaji playing tabla. I went to meet him after the Keertan and we got together from that day on.

Jindi bhaji will be in Amritsar and is staying at my residence for awhile. He will stay in Amritsar for the next two months and then will head back to USA. I am going to try to get some more tracks of his and put them on this page ASAP but I think one track is enough to introduce Jindi bhaji to you all.
